Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of wood is used in the board holder kits?

The timbers for the board holders is cut from new and recycled 2"X4" and 2"X6" fir studs. I custom cut the the timbers to a consistent size and length, cut out most of the knots and defects ending up with straight and clear lumber. Much better quality than I could buy from any lumber yard.

Do I really need to use wood glue when assembling the kit?

Yes, is the short answer. There is a major difference in strength without using the glue. If you are breaking two(2) boards probably you would not notice a difference. But four(4) and more boards takes a lot more power to get the job done. Rather be safe than sorry...

What do I really need to assemble the kit?

An electric driver with a #2 Phillips screw driver bit or a #2 Phillips screw driver, wood glue, sample board used for sizing, wet cloth to clean up the glue. Sandpaper and sanding block. Less than 30 minutes plus drying time for the glue to do the assembly.

How many boards can I break using the board holder?

I have broken ten(10) boards separated with spacers in one of my board holders at one time.  Most tournaments it is used with four(4) to seven(7) boards.

Why don't you sell the board holders assembled?

It is much less expensive, easier to ship and  less likely to get damaged during shipping  when shipping a flat pack of boards 30"x3"x6". The box for the assembled board holder would be 30"x10"x15" plus the cost for putting the holder together. The price would more than double.
